Edran Cars was founded in 1984. Initially dealing with designing and producing one-off cars lead eventually to the presentation of a nimble mid-engined Edran Spyder at the 1994 International Brussels Motor show.
But in fact the firm's history started way back in the fifties when its founder (André Hanjoul) was born with a car-virus that would very soon reveal itself in a most spectacular way. Indeed it was at a very early age that André was struck by the 300 km/h speedo in the cockpit of a beautiful silvery Ferrari he had spotted whilst walking with his parents along the stylish Brussels Metropole Hotel on a sunny Sunday afternoon. This magical figure triggered something indescribable in the young man's mind. Imagine yourself doing 300 km/h... The emotions, the passion, it all started there and then.
To make things even worse, along came the E-types, Ford GT-40's, Lamborghinis and other fascinating cars. The addiction only became more intense. By now, the mid sixties, it was time to give in to his passion for cars, which gave birth to an uncompromising urge for designing cars, chassis, suspension systems etc.
At the age of 14, plans were already underway for his second 1/10 scale, fully detailed, wooden race car.
Growing up, a few attempts were made to downsize the all-importance of cars in his life but without any real results. On the contrary, there was this innate sense that made him feel he was only at the beginning of something big...
Then along came a very important event in André's life: the birth of his children. And again André found himself designing and constructing this time a
1/1,5 scale, real running Formula One car, which got truly magnificent comments in the international car press at the time.
By now it had become obvious, there was no escape route possible, so it was time for the real thing, the dream he had so often dreamt. And indeed a few years later,
after having set up his own humble car company in 1984, the real thing came through when at the 1994 Brussels Motor show
the first Edran Spyder MK I was officially presented in 'world-première'. This 'milestone' was highlighted by Belgian Princess Astrid and Archduke Lorenz who came to visit the Edran booth to screen the new Belgian sports car.
Now, an evident step has been made as all these years of passion, perseverance and perfectionism, experience and know-how were bound to result in a new project - the Edran Enigma - a supercar with a very specific and yet extravagant philosophy: Passion and Beauty.
